Beyond “I Do” – What’s Next After Your Wedding?

EMCC was privileged to be invited by the Grand Mecure Roxy Hotel to take part in its Wedding Open House which was held on Saturday 24 Oct 2009. Our Principal Mediator, Mrs Chia Swee Tin, spoke to an audience of soon-to-be married couples in a marriage seminar entitled: Beyond ‘I Do’ – What’s Next After Your Wedding?

A wedding is for a day, while a marriage is for a lifetime. Many soon-to-be married couples are, however, too caught up with the frenzy of wedding preparations that they overlook the importance of planning for the longer lasting celebration – that is Marriage. The seminar was thus a wonderful opportunity for EMCC, through Mrs Chia who is also a Justice of the Peace, to share with couples the most important ingredients to a satisfying and fulfilling marriage life beyond the “I do”.

Couples also had the opportunity to interact with Mrs Chia and our marriage counsellors to find out more about the significance and purpose of pre-marriage preparation programmes prior to tying the knot.

Many of the couples expressed their appreciation to EMCC for sharing about life after the wedding.

“We felt something was missing…incomplete… I mean we were all busy planning for the wedding but after that, then what… No one seemed to be looking beyond the wedding day…it was just a blur. But now we’re enlightened; we know that marriage is more critical and what to look out for to ensure a blissful marriage life. Thanks so much!”

This was one feedback from two of the couples who spoke to us.

Indeed ‘Love is an ideal thing, marriage a real thing’. The event served as an apt reminder that great marriages are the results of committed couples passionate about learning how to love each other and desiring to work at their relationship so as to make their marriage a lasting celebration!
